Tetanus infection

Tetanus is an extremely life threatening infectious disease caused by bacteria, clostridium tetani manifesting with severe muscle spasm and rigidity. It can be extremely fatal if not treated properly.

Clostridium tetani is gram positive motile anaerobic spore bearing bacillus.

The organism enters the body through open wound and produces a powerful neurotoxin which moves in the blood circulation and carried to various organs and nerve endings. The toxin has special affinity for the nervous tissue; it reaches the central nervous system along the axons of motor nerve trunk and gets fixed to the motor cells of anterior horn cells.

Dengue has become a potential health hazard ,caused by virus and spreading in community by mosquitoes.it ranges from asymptomatic to various signs and symptoms and even fatal.proper investigation ,treatment and mosquito control measures are the key to fight against dengue.

Dengue fever Dengue fever is a febrile illness caused by flavivirus manifesting with various signs and symptoms ranging from asymptomatic to severe fatal illness.

It is caused by one of the four serotypes distributed globally. Infection with one serotype produces lifelong immunity.Subsequent infection other serotype produce illness like dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome.

As many as hundred million people are affected yearly. Several epidemics of dengue had occurred globally over the 20 years like LatinAmerica, India, Sri Lanka, Africa and south East Asian region.

Vector and Transmission –it is mainly caused by the bite of Aedes aegyptimosquitoes. Thesemosquitoes liketo bite the host inside as well as outside the home during daytime and night when lights are on. These mosquitoes when feed on a blood of infected dengue human becomes infected and after a week they start spreading the virus by biting another healthy human.

Enteric fever

Enteric fever or typhoid fever is bacterial infection characterized by fever, abdominal pain along with various systemic signs and symptoms.

Causative agent –bacteria named salmonella typhi and salmonella paratyphi

It is mainly transmitted by ingestion of contaminated food and water. Infected person or chronic infected person (carrier) sheds the bacteria in stool and urine which further infects water and food through various means like direct contact, insects, and flies.

Typhoid fever is a global health problem.it is epidemic in tropical countries of Indiansubcontinent, Asia, South and Central America.

It is mainly found in low socio-economic conditions, with inadequate personal hygiene, overcrowding, poor sanitary conditions, and improper sewage disposal.

Salmonella bacteria invades the intestinal mucous membrane and replicates in Payers patches, mesenteric lymph node, spleen. These bacteria moves to various parts of the body like Liver, Gallbladder, kidney, brain. The infection usually localize to the lymphoid tissue of small intestine mainly Payers patches, later on the lymphoid tissue sloughs and form ulcers in the intestine.

The name COMMON COLD comes into use in the 16th century due its very peculiar similarity in symptoms with symptoms of exposure to cold weather. It is also known as viral upper respiratory tract infection, acute viral nasophyrangitis, acute viral rhinopharyngitis, acute coryza or simply a cold. It is the most commoncontagious disease of the human and it has as such no cure though it is usually self limiting and never fatal . It is often misunderstood as influenza due to similarity in symptoms though influenza is presented with fever and the intensity of suffering is much severe. But the common home management like keeping worm, rest and plenty of worm water etc is fortunately same for both influenza and common cold.

Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common causes of loss of memory or dementia. Disease was first described by German physician Alois Alzheimerin the year 1906.

It is a degenerative disease affecting the brain leading to onset of memory loss which gradually gets worse over time, along with failure to perform his daily activities.

It affects mostly the elderly people above the age of 65 years but can also be seen in any decades of adulthood. Not all elderly people are affected with Alzheimer’s, age related memory loss is normal but they are not serious enough to hamper his /her ability to think, speak and daily activities. This disease exerts heavily psychological effect on the family members.
