Tetanus is an extremely life threatening infectious disease caused by bacteria, clostridium tetani manifesting with severe muscle spasm and rigidity. It can be extremely fatal if not treated properly.
Clostridium tetani is gram positive motile anaerobic spore bearing bacillus.
The organism enters the body through open wound and produces a powerful neurotoxin which moves in the blood circulation and carried to various organs and nerve endings. The toxin has special affinity for the nervous tissue; it reaches the central nervous system along the axons of motor nerve trunk and gets fixed to the motor cells of anterior horn cells.

Vector and Transmission –it is mainly caused by the bite of Aedes aegyptimosquitoes. Thesemosquitoes liketo bite the host inside as well as outside the home during daytime and night when lights are on. These mosquitoes when feed on a blood of infected dengue human becomes infected and after a week they start spreading the virus by biting another healthy human.

Causative agent –bacteria named salmonella typhi and salmonella paratyphi
It is mainly transmitted by ingestion of contaminated food and water. Infected person or chronic infected person (carrier) sheds the bacteria in stool and urine which further infects water and food through various means like direct contact, insects, and flies.

It is mainly found in low socio-economic conditions, with inadequate personal hygiene, overcrowding, poor sanitary conditions, and improper sewage disposal.
Salmonella bacteria invades the intestinal mucous membrane and replicates in Payers patches, mesenteric lymph node, spleen. These bacteria moves to various parts of the body like Liver, Gallbladder, kidney, brain. The infection usually localize to the lymphoid tissue of small intestine mainly Payers patches, later on the lymphoid tissue sloughs and form ulcers in the intestine.
